TAKING A BREAK

As some of you may know I'm a full-time university student and I am finding it incredibly hard to keep up with my second year of university as well as blog tours, book posts, and reading for fun in general.

Sadly I have come to realize that I have to cut this part of my life temporarily. I won't be answering any further emails, or posting for a bit because of this. I'm also debating a change when I come back to remove some people from my past. I have also shut down my instagram for this reason as well.

I hope that everyone can understand that situation I am in. Thank you much for your support!

THE WHISPER KING

The Whisper King by Wil Radcliffe
Book Genre Dark Fantasy
Synopsis
There is a monster sleeping deep inside of you, and The Whisper King is coming to wake it up…and rip it out!
My name is David Kinder. And this is my story... every goddamn bloodstained word of it.
About 25 years ago when I was six my parents died in a car crash. I was bounced around a few state homes until they finally settled me at Meripitt Hill, an orphanage just outside of Lansing, Michigan. It was there that the shadows started visiting me. Not normal shadows. These shadows moved on their own accord, and whispered strange, alien things to me. Scared the piss out of me.
Wasn’t until Donna Elizondo moved to Meripitt Hill that my life started to actually become bearable. She became my best friend. Taught me to love music and to dance. That kept the shadows away. That kept me safe.
That year we were an epic story of two. We danced. We laughed. Hell, I suspect I was falling in love with her, if kids could really know what love is.
But then she was taken away from me. Adopted.
That’s when the shadows returned for me. That’s when they took me to the Shadow Mountains to serve the Whisper King.
For 25 years I learned how to fight. How to kill. I even learned how to transform myself into a Cuthach…a monster. There were thousands of us being trained there. Thousands of us learning to reach deep inside and unleash the monsters in our guts.
When a spot opened in the Whisper King’s elite guard, the Silent Heart, I was chosen to fill it. But first I had to take one final test. A test that would determine once and for all if I was destined to be man or monster.

Praise for Destiny Rising:
“It was beyond brilliant, totally unputdownable, wildly entertaining, edge of the seat action, full of suspense; it totally rocked. Loved the ending, loved the book.”
Karla. Goodreads Reviewer.

“This is without a doubt the best book this author has written so far. I loved it from the start until the end. This series shows how a love triangle can be done right. Destiny Rising evoked so many emotions in me … and the ending, wow, so powerful. I highly recommend this series.”
 Lola’s Reviews.

“I cannot believe all of the whammy that this author packed into her book. It’s insane how quickly she’s put out these three books, and the quality is so incredibly good.”
Danielle. Paraeducator and Goodreads Reviewer.

“The events in this book, especially the ones I thought I could handle, left my heart and mind racing. Siobhan Davis is an exceptional writer and she knows how to wrap a reader around her fingers.” Khayzelle. Written Arts Blog.

“Suspense, and the urge to turn the page were almost overwhelming, resulting in quite a few long nights. The story is complex, but solidly built. Good to the last page.”
Patricia Hamill. Author Blogger. Puretextuality. @PatriciaHamill2

“I cannot put my love for Siobhan Davis’ True Calling series into words – it’s easily one of my favorite series. Destiny Rising tugs at your heart strings and messes with your feelings, but it is so wonderful. The writing is brilliant and flows wonderfully. Davis’ brings the series to a close with an epilogue that ties everything perfectly together. What a fantastic ride…”
Danielle. RamblingB00ks Blog.

“True Calling was great, and Beyond Reach was awesome, but Destiny Rising took the series to a whole new level. This series deserves to become as well-known as popular series such as The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games, Divergent, etc... It's that good.”
 Rose. Paranormal Books Blog.

COVER REVEAL // ROMANCING THE NERD

Romancing the Nerd
Release Date: 02/02/16
Entangled Teen
352 pages

Summary from Goodreads:
Dan Garrett has become exactly what he hates—popular. Until recently, he was just another live-action role-playing (LARP) geek on the lowest run of the social ladder. Cue a massive growth spurt and an uncanny skill at taking three-point shots in basketball and voila...Mr. Popular. It's definitely weird.

And the biggest drawback? Going from high school zero to basketball hero cost Dan the secret girl-of-his-dorky dreams.

A tuba-playing nerd with an eclectic fashion sense, Zelda Potts's “Coolness” stat is about minus forty-two. Dan turning his back on her and the rest of nerd-dom was brutal enough, but when he humiliates her at school, Zelda decides it's time for a little revenge—dork style. Nevermind that she used to have a crush on him. Nevermind that her plan could backfire big time.

It's time to roll the dice...and hope like freakin' hell she doesn't lose her heart in the process.

FIRST REVIEW TROLL // GUEST POST

Today is something a little different. I was contacted by an author about making a guest post on my blog about their first review troll. What is a review troll you ask? It is someone who reviews and rates books without reading them. I, for one, think this is ridiculous.

I have come across many false reviews while on goodreads and amazon, from people rating the book a 5/5 because they like the author or 1/5 because they dislike the author. This makes it harder for the author to hype their book up, it also makes it difficult for future readers. For someone like me who bases a lot of their judgment on wanting to read a book on the reviews, I may be missing out on something amazing because someone decided to troll the reviews.

Take for example James Frey. No, I completely disagree with everything he has ever done. I don't support Full Fathom Five, and I think it's disgraceful that he faked his "autobiography". But if I had let that take control of my thoughts when it came to Endgame, I would have missed out on quite a good dystopian novel. (which I have read and enjoyed *review to come)

You have to remember that to an author their book is their baby. They put everything into their writings, so you can imagine the hurt when someone falsely rates their books "just because".

So today I am featuring author, Matt Abraham.

So on to the Guest post!

MY FIRST REVIEW TROLL!  (Part 2, revenge)

For those of you who don't know, I got my first Amazon review troll this week and subsequently went through the following 3 stages... before exacting revenge. WARNING: this isn't for the squeamish, and if you're a follower or a personal friend I hope I don't lose you, or your respect. But sometimes we got to do what we got to do:

CROWN OF MIDNIGHT

Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2)
by Sarah J Maas
Summary
"A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.
It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend."
From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.
Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.
Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

This is the second book in the Throne of Glass series if you have not read the first one I highly suggest you do before you continue on with my review. Spoiler alert has been made.

THE CAGE

The Cage (The Cage #1)
by Megan Sheperd
Summary
The Maze Runner meets Scott Westerfeld in this gripping new series about teens held captive in a human zoo by an otherworldly race. From Megan Shepherd, the acclaimed author of The Madman's Daughter trilogy.
When Cora Mason wakes in a desert, she doesn't know where she is or who put her there. As she explores, she finds an impossible mix of environments—tundra next to desert, farm next to jungle, and a strangely empty town cobbled together from different cultures—all watched over by eerie black windows. And she isn't alone.
Four other teenagers have also been taken: a beautiful model, a tattooed smuggler, a secretive genius, and an army brat who seems to know too much about Cora's past. None of them have a clue as to what happened, and all of them have secrets. As the unlikely group struggles for leadership, they slowly start to trust each other. But when their mysterious jailer—a handsome young guard called Cassian—appears, they realize that their captivity is more terrifying than they could ever imagine: Their captors aren't from Earth. And they have taken the five teenagers for an otherworldly zoo—where the exhibits are humans.
As a forbidden attraction develops between Cora and Cassian, she realizes that her best chance of escape might be in the arms of her own jailer—though that would mean leaving the others behind. Can Cora manage to save herself and her companions? And if so . . . what world lies beyond the walls of their cage?

Weekly Wrapup

I'm going to try and write one blog a week wrapping up my reading for that week!

So this week I did a lot of reading for school. I was taking the Myths of Love, Sex, and Marriage, so there was a lot of reading required for the course. It was only 2 weeks long and ended on Saturday. I didn't really enjoy it, but it's all done now. I am also reading a lot for my History course that I am taking as well. I really enjoy History, so I don't mind the readings.

This week I started An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. I am over half way through it and quite enjoying the book. I also read a few indie books and currently wrapping up on called Leya by Bonnie Ferrante. Now this one I have some issues with, but I will be putting up a full review soon!

Other then that it's been a pretty simple week. I still attend classes, which is nice because I enjoy the routine. The weather is starting to get warm again, and I get to sleep in every day, so no complaining there!

Yesterday was my dad's birthday, I wish I could have gone and seen him but living 20 hours away is hard!

I did some book shopping (twice) this week, and plan on picking up one more on Tuesday. The next months releases are highly anticipated for me. It's going to be a good month, I'm super excited. I will be doing another book haul video as well!

I hope you all had a fantastic week, and enjoying your weekend, or long weekend for my American friends.

A NECKLACE OF SOULS

A Necklace of Souls
by R.L. Stedman
Release Date: 12/19/14 // 339 pages
Summary from Goodreads:
‘A true dream is when the events I see in my sleep have, or will happen. It’s a talent that runs in my family. I was thirteen when I had my first true dream.’
Will’s Aunt says the Kingdom of the Rose is the most fortunate of lands. But Will hates the place – his uncle and aunt are horrible, and he misses his parents. Oh, how he misses them.
Dana wishes she wasn’t a princess. She’s always being told how to behave, what to wear. There’s a strangeness in the castle – why will no one talk about the Guardian, or the necklace that protects the land? And why does her father look at her with such sorrow? The collier’s cart seems the perfect escape. Only she didn’t realize she’d become so dirty, or so lost. Fortunately this boy, Will, has a sense of direction. And next to the forbidding stranger, N’tombe, he seems reassuringly normal.

Welcome to A Necklace of Souls: a story of love and loss, of shattered lives and desperate hopes. In the Kingdom of the Rose, bravery is not always measured by strength and magic is real, if only one has the courage to dream.
Short listed for the Sir Julius Vogel Award, A Necklace of Souls was awarded the Tessa Duder Award for Young Adult Fiction, Best First Book at the New Zealand Post Children and Young Adult Book Awards and is a Storylines Notable Book.

"On the heels of a family tragedy, the last thing Katie Greene wants to do is move halfway across the world. Stuck with her aunt in Shizuoka, Japan, Katie feels lost. Alone. She doesn’t know the language, she can barely hold a pair of chopsticks, and she can’t seem to get the hang of taking her shoes off whenever she enters a building. Then there’s gorgeous but aloof Tomohiro, star of the school’s kendo team. How did he really get the scar on his arm? Katie isn’t prepared for the answer. But when she sees the things he draws start moving, there’s no denying the truth: Tomo has a connection to the ancient gods of Japan, and being near Katie is causing his abilities to spiral out of control. If the wrong people notice, they'll both be targets. Katie never wanted to move to Japan—now she may not make it out of the country alive."
